A 17ft sailing boat which sank when it was swamped with sea water in Burnham-On-Sea over the weekend was successfully retrieved by Sailing Club members on Monday (July 21st).
The boat, called ‘She’s Mine’, had been moored on the banks of the River Brue near Burnham Sailing Club when it started to take on water on Sunday.
It eventually disappeared under the water with only its mast showing, as pictured, prompting work by by Sailing Club members to retrieve it.
John Clist, Commodore of Burnham Sailing Club, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The boat’s bilge pumps appeared to have failed and this led to the vessel losing its buoyancy when the tide came in.”
He said the boat was refloated on Monday afternoon after the club’s members anchored it, removed water onboard, and resolved the fault. He added that it is unclear how much damage has been done to the vessel.
