Two young runners from the Burnham-On-Sea area are celebrating this week after being selected to compete for their country.
Luke Prior from Berrow and Oliver Dickinson from Brent Knoll have been picked to take part in top competitions.
Oliver has been selected to run for Wales Under 20s in the Celtic Cup at Cardiff after finishing third at the recent Welsh Inter Counties.
The Celtic Cup is a prestigious event run between Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
Oliver told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “He is so proud to represent his birth country and all the hard work we have put in is paying off, I would like to thank all who have had input and supported me including family, friends, my coach and The Church gym.”
And Luke Prior has been selected to represent England in the 2017 Elogibar Cross Country competition in Spain on 22nd January.
This came off the back of Luke coming 16th at the recent European cross country trials.
The Elogibar event has a lot of history, and The Cross Internacional Juan Muguerza, also known as the Elgoibar Cross Country, is an annual cross country running competition which takes place each January in Elgoibar, the Basque Country of Spain.
It is named as a memorial of local runner Juan Muguerza, a multiple national champion who was killed in 1937 during the bombing of Mungia in the Spanish Civil War.) Luke will be racing athletes from all over the world.
Luke said: “I am so happy to say that I received a phone call from Keith Holt, junior England team manager, about running for England in Spain. I want to thank all those who have supported me, including family and friends – both at University and Home. I am well looking forward to it!”
