-

Dozens of young rugby players descended on Burnham-On-Sea’s BASC sports ground on Easter Sunday when it played host to Somerset RFU’s under 14 super six tournament.

Each of the six council districts of Somerset picked a representative team of 24 players to represent their district from the rugby clubs within it.

The Sedgemoor district team, called the Bucaneers, was picked from players from Burnham-On-Sea RFC, Winscombe RFC, Cheddar Valley RFC, Bridgwater RFC and Weston RFC.

Six Burnham players were choosen – Michael Hughes, Gabriel Councell, Cameron Macbeth, John Badger, Christian Curry and Joe Hester.

The club’s Russel Dyson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Unfortunately, Michael Hughes was injured before the finals day and was unable to play, but the other five players represented their district with pride and eventually won the competion, beating Bath and North East Somerset’s Centurians 12 points to 7 in a tense final.”
