Burnham-On-Sea’s rugby club is set to make £62,000 of improvements to its ground with a brand new grandstand and floodlighting.
The club, based at the town’s BASC Ground in Stoddens Road, has been given council approval to install the new structures.
Planning permission has been granted for an 80-seat purpose-built grandstand costing £30,000 which will replace its temporary seating next to the main pitch.
And the club has also just been awarded £25,000 of RTL3 community development funding towards its total £32,000 cost of installing new lighting next to two pitches.
Burnham Rugby Club Chairman Caine Harding told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It is fantastic news that these long-planned improvements can go ahead.”
“Our previous stand had been in place for over 20 years and has needed replacing for some time, particularly as we now regularly attract big crowds. The current temporary seating will be replaced with a new brick-built grandstand.”
Vice Chairman Pete Lewis added: “The new flood-lighting will replace the old lights next to the training pitch and will also be installed next to our second team pitch, allowing the club’s 160 youth members to take part in evening training sessions over the winter months.”
The club’s first team is playing well in the Weston Counties North Division this season, its highest-ever place. Burnham-On-Sea.com first featured here the club’s lighting plans in 2010.
