Christmas waste and recycling is being cleared this week in the Burnham-On-Sea area by Somerset Waste Partnership collection crews and recycling staff.
After a week of severe weather led to many thousands of collections being missed, kerbside services have been underway since Tuesday, and recycling centres re-opened early at 9am on Monday, however garden waste collections remain suspended.
The partnership’s Nick Cater told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “All available vehicles have been mobilised to speed up collections, including some older green recycling vehicles, while refuse trucks are being used to collect cardboard in some areas.”
“Efforts are focused on scheduled collections to ensure all homes are reached. There will be no further catch-up of homes previously missed; their recycling and rubbish will be removed on their next scheduled collection day.”
“Residents are urged to put their recycling and rubbish out on the correct collection day, which will have temporarily changed because of Christmas. Extra materials and rubbish will be accepted.”
Homes usually on a Tuesday service will be collected today, Wednesday 29th, while Wednesday homes will be collected on Thursday 30th, Thursday homes on Friday 31st, and Friday homes on Sunday 2nd January.
Next week, there will be no collections on Monday 3rd January. Monday homes will be collected on Tuesday 4th January, Tuesday homes on Wednesday 5th, Wednesday homes on Thursday 6th, Thursday homes on Friday 7th, and unusually, Friday homes on Saturday 8th January.
Weather permitting, all collections, including clinical and garden waste, will return to normal from Monday 10th January.
All recycling centres are expected to be open 9am-5pm seven days a week, except for Saturday – New Year’s Day – for any rubbish or recycling.
