The RSPCA has won permission to build an 18-metre tall wind turbine at its centre in Brent Knoll despite concerns from the parish council and residents about its impact.
Sedgemoor District Council’s Development Control Committee has granted the charity approval to construct a small-scale 11KW, 25 metre tall wind turbine that will have a hub height of 18.3 metres to provide energy for the centre in Brent Road.
Brent Knoll Parish Council had objected against the plans on the basis that the character and appearance of the local area and landscape would be harmed.
However, Sedgemoor’s Landscape Officer states in a report on the application: “I consider that the proposed turbine, being relatively small scale, is well related to the existing RSPCA buildings, and will not be a dominating feature in the landscape. The proposed development will only have a moderately adverse impact on the landscape.”
