Highbridge’s Royal wedding street party plans gather support

-

Highbridge is preparing to hold a huge street party to remember during this Spring’s Royal wedding celebrations.

Highbridge Residents’ Association is organising the party in the town in April to celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The first meeting of the street party’s task force will be held at Highbridge Children’s Centre at 10am on Friday 21st January when the plans will start to come together.

Tina Gray, Vice Chairman of Highbridge Residents’ Association, hopes the party will stir up a similar community spirit to that of the 1977 Silver Jubilee, which marked the 25th anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip.

Tina said: “We had a fantastic time back then. Putting on a celebration like that will create some community spirit for young and old people.”

If you are interested in supporting the idea, contact Highbridge Residents’ Association Chairman Kim Chatwin on 07731 035862.

The Home Office has announced this week that pubs, restaurants and community centres will be able to stay open until 1am on the weekend of the Royal Wedding to help the nation celebrate the big event.
