Tributes have been paid to a popular Burnham-On-Sea pub landlord who died over the Easter weekend after a long struggle with poor health.
Roy Hodge, pictured, was landlord of the Somerset and Dorset pub in Burnham High Street for more than 20 years until 2007.
Readers of Burnham-On-Sea.com have been paying tribute to Roy here.
And John Quinnell, current landlord of the S&D, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “He was an absolutely brilliant landlord – a superb guy who was very popular and did so much for the community.”
“Unfortunately, he suffered from long-running health problems and that was the only reason he gave up the pub.”
Roy was instrumental in setting up the pub’s fundraising group, the Local Emergency Service (LES) which over the course of 22 years earned almost £70,000 for local good causes. Roy was present at the very last LES cheque presentation, which was held in January 2008, as pictured below.
