A long-running group in Burnham-On-Sea has folded after running for more than 60 years, it has been confirmed this week.
Burnham and Highbridge Round Table, which was formed in the 1950s, has been wound up due to falling numbers of members.
Tim Walters, the group’s final Chairman, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re down to just a handful of members and have found it very difficult to recruit newcomers over the last five years so we’ve made the regrattable decision to wind up the group.”
“The numbers have been falling for the last 10 years – very different to the group’s heyday when we had over sixty members.”
He added: “It’s disappointing to have to fold the group after so many years, but disbanding it is the right thing to do. We thank members of the local community for all their support over the last six decades.”
The club’s remaining funding has been donated to Chloe Edrich, a young Burnham-On-Sea swimmer, to help her compete in national swimming competitions.
Round Table is a social networking and charitable organisation for men in their 20s, 30s and early 40s, founded in Norwich, in 1927. It is open to all men aged between 18 and 45.
