Home economics students at King Alfred School in Highbridge have been putting their catering skills to the test by competing in the first round of the annual Rotary Young Chef Competition, organised by Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club.
The youngsters, who were all in Year 10 and 11, were required to design, prepare, cook and present a two-course meal on a budget of just £10 with a time allowance of 15 minutes for food preparation and 90 minutes for cooking, presentation and tidying their working area.
Joe Harrington, Zoe Tuck and Laurie McAinish were awarded the top three positions by the panel of independent judges, who commented on the high standard of all the entries.
“Joe will now progress to the next round of the competition, which will be held at Wincanton on 12th February, where he will be pitting his skills against other young chefs from all over Somerset and parts of Dorset and Wiltshire in preparing a three-course meal,” the Rotary Club’s George Moon told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
