Rotary Club announces launch of summer book shop in Burnham

-

Burnham-On-Sea book lovers will be in for a feast at the end of the month when the town’s Rotary Club opens its annual charity book shop for two weeks from Monday 24th July until Sunday 6th August inclusive.

The popular summer-time shop has been running for over 30 years and is eagerly awaited by local people and regular holidaymakers, some of whom come year after year. In recent years it has become more difficult to find an empty shop to use, but arrangements have now been made for this summer.

The shop will be in the former CJ Hole premises at No. 1 Victoria Street (pictured below), by kind permission of the owner and agents J H Palmer & Sons.

Organiser Roy Twining told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We already have a fair stock of books but shall be pleased to receive donations of good, clean books, especially paperbacks, and also records, CDs and videos for re-sale. Because of the short notice, we ask people to bring their books to the shop, but not, please, until Monday 24th when we open.”

The former CJ Hole building will become a book shop for a fortnightThe book shop will be open from 10am to 5pm daily and is the first major fund-raising event for recently-installed President Mike Young.

“Last year’s shop in Adam Street was very successful,” he said, “and I am sure that we shall do even better this year on the corner of College Street and Victoria Street. We are grateful to the shop owner and agents for their support in this venture.”
