Burnham Rotary Club’s summer book shop opened at the start of August and is operating from the former Thresher’s Wine Shop in College Street until the end of the month.
“Our summer book shop and fireworks collections are the club’s main fundraising events for local beneficiaries, apart from one-off special events,” the Rotary Club’s George Moon told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “We’ve had a very good response so far and the shop will remain open until the Bank Holiday Weekend.”
Following the flood disaster in Pakistan, the shop also has additional collection buckets for contributions towards the purchase of Shelterboxes to help flood victims.
Each Shelterbox, provided by the Rotary Shelterbox Trust, contains a tent and equipment (apart from food) to provide shelter, survival and purified water for upto 10 people for a month.
Stocks of Shelterboxes are low, and because each costs around £500 to produce and equip, the need for more donations is urgent. Boxes will continue to be sent until the need in Palistan is satisfied.
