A major project to transform a former waste landfill site into a new public park in Burnham-On-Sea is progressing well and is set to be completed this year.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported in 2009 that Sedgemoor District Council was spending £2.4m on clearing up the site, north of Wallace Wells Road, in order to create a new public space to be called Rosewood Green.
The council’s spokeswoman, Claire Faun, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “Despite the recent wet and wintry weather, good progress is being made.”
“Sedgemoor District Council’s contractor, Blakedown Operations, is on standby to complete the outstanding works – stone picking, final cultivation and grass seeding – as soon as ground conditions are suitable.”
“This work will take about four to five days. The grass will then need some time to allow for establishment and growth.”
She added: “Work completed so far includes the arrival of new top soil to give plants a head start, the construction of a footpath and cycleway network and the installation of new seats and litter bins.”
The park is located south east of Cookson Close and north of Wallace Wells Road, as pictured on the map above.
Mrs Faun added that work on creating a brand new children’s play area is anticipated to start in the summer with an estimated finish time in the early autumn.
