Burnham-On-Sea’s Rosewood Action Group launches new ‘drop-in centre’

-

A group of Burnham-On-Sea residents who recently formed an action team to tackle low-level crime and anti-social behaviour on their estate launched a new drop-in service on Wednesday (January 14th) and received a £2,000 funding boost.

The Rosewood Action Team held their first drop-in session at Rosewood Communal Hall in Rosewood Close to give local people an opportunity to report problems requiring action.

The group also received £2,000 from local councillor Rose Parsons from her County Council Community Fund.

John Alexander, Chairman of the Rosewood Action Team, pictured right with Chief Superintendent Sandy Padgett, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The centre endeavours to help residents of the Rosewood Estate by advising on any issues that local people want to discuss or report, such as low-level crime and disorder, including anti-social behaviour and traffic problems.”

“We invite all residents of the Rosewood estate to come along and discuss any matters of concern over a coffee. I am confident that we can help you or we will know a man who can!”

The centre will open again on Wednesday 28th January from 4pm-7pm and thereafter on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month.

Representatives from local police, the town council and other groups were on hand to give advice.

Chief Superintendent Padgett said: “Local Action Teams are a great way to empower local residents to take action on issues affecting their community. Supported by their local policing team, members give up their own time for the benefit of their neighbours and can act as invaluable links between police and the community.”

“The drop-in centre held on the fourth Wednesday of the month will also double up as a beat surgery in which residents can speak directly to their Safer Stronger Neighbourhood policing team.”

“I would encourage anyone with concerns regarding the Rosewood area to come along to the next drop-in session on Wednesday January 28 and receive the support and advice they need by others that live in their community.”

The Rosewood Action Team has the support of Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, which recently awarded it £250 of grant funding.
