Residents living near the site of a proposed new £20million wind farm near Burnham-On-Sea have this week given a ‘mixed reaction’ to the plans during a series of consultation events.
Over 160 people attended the five consultation events, held from Thursday to Saturday, when the details of the controversial project went on show for the first time.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported earlier this month that Broadview Energy is in the early stages of a project to build six wind turbines on farmland east of the M5 motorway, around 1km south of Rooksbridge.
The firm says its studies indicate the site, called Pilrow Wind Farm, is a good location for a farm of this size.
However, Broadview’s project manager, Tom Cosgrove, told Burnham-On-Sea.com at the consultation event outside Highbridge’s Asda store on Saturday morning (June 18th) that not all local people are in favour of the plans.
“The project has attracted a mixed reception, but all the visitors have been very interested in finding out more. We have been visited by just as many people for the scheme as against it.”
“Further consultation events like this are being planned for July when more details about the scheme will be available.”
The company is also consulting with several local and national organisations including English Heritage, Natural England and the Drainage Board. Further details regarding the project are available on the dedicated Pilrow website here.
