Outdoor performance of Romeo and Juliet in Brent Knoll this Saturday

-

A special outdoor theatre performance of Shakespeare’s classic Romeo and Juliet will be performed in Brent Knoll this Saturday (July 27th).

Gloucester-based alfresco drama company The Festival Players will be performing the story of young love and family fueds.

The performance will be held at Ivy Hall in Brent Knoll at 7pm, with the gardens opening at 5.45pm.

Spectators are encouraged to bring a picnic and their own seating. Tickets, costing £15 for adults and £7 for children, are available from the box office on 0845 2249164 or Brent Knoll post office on 01278 760225. Proceeds will go to ABF The Soldier’s Charity and St Michael’s Church Fabric Fund.

Romeo and Juliet is staged with a cast of seven. There is much doubling up therefore, with the ubiquitous Paul Jennings playing four sharply contrasting roles.

“His interpretation of the nurse is well judged, never quite lapsing into a pantomime dame and touchingly believable when he/she has to show sorrow. To his credit, he also plays the dastardly Tybalt,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Anthony Pinnick and Alicia Bennett as the star-crossed couple are developing a chemistry but their initial encounters need a burst of wild abandon and then palpable, panting and raging lust.”

“Bennett excels with her reactions to the adults, suddenly feisty and truculent, a young woman who has discovered her sexuality. Apparently Pinnick came to the part rather late in rehearsals but that is never apparent. His playing of Romeo’s lovelorn phase will please audiences who know their Shakespeare.”

“Henry Proffit gives the production much of its dramatic weight. He plays Mercutio and Friar Laurence with admirable distinction. He has a classic profile and a voice that should be opening doors for radio work and seeing him in more prominent classic roles.”

“The pacing of this Romeo and Juliet is brisk, the style is blessedly traditional and there is live music to enjoy. Given fair weather, the Festival Players will win some new admirers.”
