Burnham-On-Sea police have this week urged residents to be extra vigilant after two rogue trader incidents in the town.
Officers were called to two incidents over the weekend in which elderly women were targeted.
The first incident occurred in Rectory Drive on Friday morning (9th May) at around 10am when a man knocked on the door of an 85 year-old lady.
“The man claimed he had cleared rubbish from her garden several years ago for her late husband,” said Community Beat Officer for Burnham North, PC Ian Bartlett.
“The informant could not remember any such person and the man left when the resident asked for ID and stated he would return.”
The man was described as white, around 50 years-old and of a stocky build with very short brown hair.
In a second incident on Saturday May 10th, a similar appearing man went to the home of an elderly lady in St Mary’s Road in Burnham-On-Sea.
“He lied to the lady, telling her that he was doing work next door and needed to cut her trees which were protruding onto the neighbour’s garden,” said PC Bartlett. “He cut the trees and took some cash and said he would be back.”
Any information on these or similar incidents in the Burnham-On-Sea or Highbridge areas should be reported to police by contacting 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
