Councillors in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge have paid their respects to a prominent district councillor who died on Sunday (July 11th).
Sedgemoor District Council Labour Leader Roger Lavers, pictured, died of a brain hemorrhage – shocking fellow members.
Burnham Councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is devastating news, I have worked with Roger on the district council for many years. We all thought he was on the mend and hoping to return to council in the near future.”
“He was a very hard working councillor and was respected by all our members from all parties. I am not sure Woolavington will ever find such a committed councillor again. He will be sadly missed and my sympathy goes to his wife and family.”
And Highbridge district councillor and Lib Dem leader Joe Leach added: “Roger was a smashing guy. He worked hard at holding Sedgemoor to account and he will be missed in the chamber.”
“His contributions were always thought out and fair. My condolences go to his family.”
