Seafront visitors in Burnham-On-Sea seeking the public loos or tourist information centre have been left baffled by a road sign that points them in the opposite direction!
The sign on the South Esplanade is just a few metres away from the building containing the facilities to the right – but instead it points people away from the premises.
A spokesperson for BIARS, the community group that runs Burnham’s information centre, said: “It’s definitely misleading and without doubt is not helping visitors who are unfamiliar with our town.”
“Several visitors have remarked how confusing it is, but when we complained to Somerset County Council they defended it, saying the sign is trying to show that parking for the Tourist Information Centre and toilets is on the left – not the facilities themselves!”
Several Burnham town councillors have this week vowed to take up the matter with Somerset County Council.
