Four members of Burnham Sailing Club pulled on their walking boots to take part in a 45-mile fundraising trek from Dunkery Beacon, the highest point in Somerset, back to the town this week.
Sue Mount, Chrissie O’Brien, Trish Windle and Dave Fisher completed the walk in 16 hours to raise money for national lifeboats charity the RNLI.
Calling in at two West Huntspill pubs, The Crossways Inn and The Artillery Arms, with an RNLI collection bucket, they swelled the £600-£700 sponsorship money by an appreciable amount.
On their arrival at the sailing club they were greeted by spouses and supporters, celebration bunting, an arch of dinghy oars, and a welcome foot soak followed by refreshments in the club bar.
Trish completed the walk with a broken rib, which made the journey even more uncomfortable for her.
Burnham RNLI Operations Manger Ricky Holmes said: “We are very impressed with the excellent effort they put in.”
