New Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat shop is ready for official opening

Burnham-On-Sea RNLI has announced more details about this month’s official opening of its new shop in the town.

The shop – which is located on the seafront next to Sunspot Amusements – will be opened by BBC TV presenter John Inverdale on Monday February 27th at mid-day.

Run by Burnham RNLI’s Supporters Group, it has been completely refitted both inside and out ahead of the launch.

John Inverdale is currently presenting the BBC’s Six Nations rugby coverage and his sister Jendy Weekes, who is the Chairman of Burnham RNLI’s Supporters’ Group (pictured below), said: “The shop will be open daily between 10am and 4pm, with slightly longer hours during the school holidays.”

“Prospective volunteers should make themselves known by either contacting us at the shop on 01278 784213 or by ringing me on 01278 641370.”

Burnham Lifeboats Press Officer Mike Lang added: “You don’t need to go to sea to be a lifeboat volunteer. The people who run the lifeboat shops are the unsung heroes of the RNLI, boosting the charities income by an impressive amount. Volunteering can be fun, so come along and talk to us if you have any spare time.”

Members of the public will be able to view the opening ceremony from the safety of The Esplanade on the other side of the road as there is little space on the pavement in front of the shop.
