Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat crews have recovered a yacht found aground on Berrow beach on Monday (June 3rd) as Police and Coastguards say they are increasingly concerned for the welfare of the owner, who has been missing since Saturday.
A walker found the 20ft yacht – called ‘Egoist’ – on Monday morning and Police have issued the photo below of the missing owner, David Moore, aged 43, from Avonmouth as officers appeal for the public’s help in finding him.
Burnham RNLI recovered the yacht from Berrow beach at high tide on Monday evening and took the vessel to the pontoons at Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club, as pictured below.
Police are continuing their ‘missing person enquiry’ into what has happened of the owner.
A witness reported to Avon and Somerset Police that they saw the yacht, apparently abandoned at about 6.30am on Monday on the beach near Berrow Church.
The vessel had last been seen leaving Watchet Marina on Saturday afternoon (1st June).
“Police are treating this as a missing person enquiry,” a Police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com, as they released a photo of the owner.
“Officers are concerned for the welfare of the owner, David Moore, aged 43, and anyone with information which could help is asked to get in touch,” added the spokesman.
Those with information can contact the Police via www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, or by calling 101, quoting reference 5219122957.
Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat crews and Burnham Coastguards were called out early on Monday to investigate reports of the grounded yacht.
Both lifeboats were launched at 7.10am from the town’s jetty and made their way to the scene near Berrow Church.
There being no apparent signs of life onboard the vessel, a crewmember from Burnham’s D-Class lifeboat Burnham Reach boarded it to investigate.
After unsuccessful attempts to tow the craft to safety, the rescue was abandoned, and the vessel was left under the supervision of the Coastguard until Monday evening when the lifeboats re-launched and towed the yacht to Burnham Sailing Club.
