Highbridge’s River Brue Festival gets underway today (Friday August 1st) with a host of events taking place in the town.
After vandalism in the early part of the week, artist Stefan Jennings moved his sculpture (pictured right) to Wall Eden Farm in East Huntspill, as reported here by Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The sculpture returns to the banks of the River Brue on Saturday and Sunday (August 2nd and 3rd August) and Stefan will be on site on Saturday between 11am-2pm to answer questions and discuss his passion for working in the environment.
“Stefan’s work forms a key part of the River Brue Visual Arts Festival, and provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to walk the Brue path, discovering unusual and interesting art works along the way,” festival spokeswoman Sarah Steadman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Artist Clive Hammond-Lovatt is also building a sculptural exhibit using items found along the River Brue (as pictured below) and this is now on display along the river.
Artists who are members of Somerset Arts Week (SAW) are creating a sculpture trail along the Brue’s banks and will be on site from 10am on Friday, creating interesting and unusual art in the environment.
The Highbridge History project will also put on an exhibition of photographs and memories in the town’s Community Hall on August 2nd and there will be an outdoor arts fayre on Burnham seafront on August 2nd and 3rd.
Brochures and maps for the arts festival are available at the Burnham tourist information centre on the seafront, and from shops and businesses in both Burnham and Highbridge.
The festival will also include sculpture workshops, a mural making session, guided walks and family art workshops – as we recently previewed here.
