Burnham’s annual Produce and Craft Show attracts over 200 entries

A patchwork quilt which has taken ten months to make scooped one of the top awards at the annual Burnham-On-Sea Ritz Club Produce and Craft Show on Saturday September 3.

Jackie Skinner with her winning cakeMargaret Budden – who is pictured above with Ruth Theobold, one of the event’s organisers – said she was “delighted” to have won the trophy for the ‘Best craft entry in the show’.

Her 70×90″ quilt, which is made up of hundreds of scraps of material, was one of more than 200 entries on display at the third annual show, held in The Ritz Club.

Jackie Skinner, pictured right, was also celebrating after winning a Best In Show award in the produce categories for her colourfully decorated cake.

The Noddy-themed entry in the shape of a car took several days to make and contained multiple layers of thick icing with a plain cake in the middle.

Young Jasmine Longdon was handed the award for best in show in the childrens’ classes. Her miniature garden, showing a country scene, grabbed the attention of judges to win the ‘Junior Best In Show’ trophy.

Organiser Ruth Theobold told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been our most successful event to date. We’ve had 217 entries today – the most ever – and the overall standard has been simply excellent.”
