A £500 reward has been offered for information that leads to the successful prosecution of the vandals who caused widespread damage at East Huntspill School last week.
A local resident, who has asked to remain anonymous, has offered the cash reward in the hope that it will lead to the prosecution of those responsible.
It comes after a trail of damage was left there at New Year, as we first reported here. The community rallied together and launched a clean-up to allow the school to re-open on Monday after the holiday.
However, a week on, and police said on Thursday (January 8th) that they are still appealing for witnesses to the New Year’s Eve incident.
Police spokesman Stephen Weatherill told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are still asking witnesses to come forward. We are keen to speak to three people in dark clothing – one of mixed race and two white – who were seen near the school on New Year’s Eve. We would like to eliminate them from our enquiries and ask for anyone with information to call us on 101.”
The vandals broke play equipment and smashed doors to cause damage around the exterior of the school, which was later cleaned up by a team of over 40 volunteers and local groups, as we reported here.
Amy Griffin, from the school’s PTA, said many pre-school outdoor toys were broken and there was also damage to the memorial garden wildlife pond. “It’s awful for the school’s children that the equipment was damaged in this way – it was senseless.”
