Restorative Justice used against youths who caused fire
Burnham-On-Sea police are using restorative justice against two youths who caused criminal damage in the town by setting a deliberate fire.
The restorative justice orders have been served against the duo after they set a fence on fire in Burnham Road.
“One of the offenders has been referred to the Youth Offending Team and the Fire Setters Course run by Devon and Somerset Fire Service, a scheme designed to help young people understand the consequences of setting fires through visits and educational exercises,” Sgt Ian Kennett told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Devon and Somerset Fire Service has also worked in partnership with the police and Highbridge’s King Alfred School by conducting lessons around arson to all Year 8 students.
Restorative justice is an approach to justice that focuses on the needs of victims and offenders, instead of the need to satisfy the principles of law or the need of the community to exact punishment.
