Hovercraft launched after man becomes trapped in mud at Stert Point
Burnham-On-Sea’s hovercraft was launched on Saturday March 26 to help in the rescue of a person trapped in mud at Stert Point.
The craft was called out at 17:46 after the alarm was raised by Avon and Somerset Constabulary reporting that a man was stuck up to his waist in thick mud at Stert Beach.
The Coastguard requested the launch of the hovercraft and a lifeboat from Burnham, along with a rescue team from the Watchet Coastguard.
The casualty, 16 year-old Nathan Cropper from Meare near Glastonbury, was successfully extracted from the mud by the police rescue team and taken by ambulance to Musgrove Hospital.
The Burnham hovercraft was stood down at 18:06 and returned to shore shortly afterwards.
This was the second call-out of the hovercraft in a fortnight. On March 20, the group rescued a jet skier twice in the space of just four hours.
