Hovercraft called to Brean to help mother and daughter after asthma attack
A rescue team involving Burnham-On-Sea’s hovercraft, the coastguard, paramedics and an RAF helicopter were called to help a 46 year-old woman who suffered an asthma attack while walking in treacherous mud on Brean Beach on Wednesday, September 1st.
The casualty, from Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, lost circulation in her legs after walking waist-deep in mud 300 metres from the shoreline with her 26 year-old daughter.
Coastguards called out Burnham-On-Sea’s Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft at 14:19 hours.
The Coastguard managed to extract the casualty onto a stretcher and then move her higher up the beach.
An RAF Sea King helicopter, which was on a training exercise in Cardiff Bay at the time, was called to airlift the 46 year-old to Weston-super-Mare General Hospital.
The daughter was also brought back to the beach and checked over by paramedics before being released.
The hovercraft was stood down approximately one mile from the incident scene.
