Burnham hovercraft called out after two people briefly become stuck in mud

Burnham-On-Sea’s hovercraft was called out shortly after mid-day on Saturday June 18 to help two people who were reportedly stuck in mud at Brean.

The crew of the Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft were paged by Coastguards at 12:12 hours, but were stood down a few minutes later before launching when it emerged that the pair – a woman and child – had freed themselves from the mud and scrambled to safety.

A Coastguard spokesman confirmed that two people had briefly got into difficulties in mud to the west of Brean beach’s main entrance, and that Burnham’s Coastguard Mud Rescue Team had also been called out – but neither they or the hovercraft were required.
