An 11 year-old boy was rescued after getting stuck in mud on Brean Beach on Thursday afternoon (April 9th).
A rescue hovercraft from Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue and two teams of Coastguards were called to the beach next to Brean Down at 3.30pm.
“The boy was walking across the mudflats to reach the sea at low tide when he got stuck in knee-deep mud – his parents raised the alarm and crews were quickly on scene,” said Coastguard Officer Dave Welland.
BARB’s Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft flew out to the boy with two Coastguards onboard, where he was helped free from the mud and then flown back to the safety of the beach.
The boy, who is on holiday from Manchester with his family, was unhurt during the incident.
“Our advice is always to stay away from the muddy areas of the beach and to check the tide times,” added Mr Welland.
The crews had rehearsed a similar mud rescue just hours before on Wednesday evening during a training exercise in Burnham.
