Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge are to hold Remembrance Day ceremonies today (Sunday, November 13th).
Burnham’s parade will go along the High Street this year for the first time, with the participants gathering at 10am in the town’s Pier Street Car Park behind B&M.
The parade will leave at 10.20am and head northwards along the High Street, wending its way through the town centre.
The parade will then head along Princess Street to Burnham’s War Memorial for the traditional 11am wreath-laying ceremony.
“We want people in the town centre to see the parade and for it to be as visible as possible,” John Crosby, Vice Chairman of Burnham’s Royal British Legion, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We have a record number of people taking part this year, from cadets and emergency services to the Riders (Motorcyclist) Branch of the Royal British Legion.”
Burnham’s Mayor, Cllr Michael Clarke, will take the salute at the war memorial and then the parade will disperse at the Princess Theatre afterwards. There will be no parking along Burnham High Street on Sunday morning from 6am to allow the parade to take place.
Highbridge’s ceremony and service will start at 3pm at St John’s Church, followed by a procession to the War Memorial for Wreath Laying.
Members of the public are being encouraged to come along and watch the ceremony.
