Hundreds of people attended Burnham-On-Sea’s Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday to honour those local people who have died in conflicts.
Burnham’s Royal British Legion organised the ceremony, which was watched by a record turnout of residents at the town’s War Memorial in Love Lane.
A parade took place beforehand along Burnham-On-Sea’s High Street, as shown in the video above, featuring 245 people of all ages from local community groups.
Led by the Mayor Cllr Michael Clarke, they marched from Burnham’s Pier Street car park through the town centre to the War Memorial.
The ceremony was led by Rev Graham Witts, Vicar of Burnham-On-Sea, and saw scores of dignitaries lay wreaths on behalf of local groups.
Two minutes’ silence was held at exactly 11am followed by the playing of the Last Post by trumpeter Joe Storar, followed by pipe music by piper Gavin Utting.
The ceremony was held in bright, sunny conditions and finished with the crowds singing the National Anthem.
The Mayor told Burnham-On-Sea.com afterwards: “It was wonderful that there was such a marvellous turnout on such an important day for the town.”
“It was great to see the parade so well represented – it was held through the High Street for the first time and this worked well.”
