Hundreds of people attended Burnham-On-Sea’s Remembrance Service today (Sunday) to pay tribute to those who have died in conflicts.
Burnham’s Royal British Legion organised the ceremony at the town’s War Memorial in Love Lane, with a parade beforehand.
The parade – featuring over 200 people from various groups – marched from Oxford Street to Burnham’s War Memorial, where the poignant ceremony took place.
The parade was led by Mike Mansfield, right, and Rev Graham Witts. Burnham’s Mayor Michael Clarke was among the dignitaries laying wreaths, along with representatives from local councils and groups.
Two minutes’ silence was held at exactly 11am followed by the playing of the Last Post and pipe music from piper Rod Anderson.
The ceremony, which was held in mild and overcast conditions, ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
The Mayor told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was great to see such a good turnout for such an important day. It was also great to see the parade through town so well supported.”
