Winners of Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Regatta are crowned

-

The winners of this year’s Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Regatta have been crowned after three days of competitive yacht racing.

The overall winners of the weekend regatta were Andy and Sue Walker in their yacht Merlin, which narrowly took top honours after a series of races in Bridgwater Bay.

Second place was taken by Old Rhodie skippered by Ken Sowden and Mark Tinker, while third was Super Saphire with Dave Jackson and his son, and fourth was Rodney Southwell and Jim Paul in Walrus.

All the winners – pictured above – were presented with specially engraved glasses at Monday’s presentation ceremony.

“We had a great weekend of racing with some very changeable weather, ranging from winds measuring Force 0 on Monday to Force 6 on Sunday! There was heavy rain on Saturday and calm sunshine on Monday!” commodore Ken Sowden told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We saw some very close racing that led to some very close results – there was just a 22 second difference separate the leading two yachts on Sunday after 90 minutes of racing, and the pursuit race saw Merlin win by just 25 yards, showing the great competitive spirit.”

“We thank our race officer Graham Wills and all those who took part during the weekend for making the event such a success.”
