Winners receive awards as Burnham-On-Sea Regatta comes to a close

-

Organisers of this year’s Burnham-On-Sea Regatta have celebrated the end of another successful event.

The winners of the annual ten-day event (pictured right) were presented with awards on Sunday afternoon (August 10th) as this year’s regatta came to a close.

Ken Sowden, Burnham Sailing Club Vice Commodore and Sailing Master, handed out the awards after a final wind-swept morning of sailing.

“The weather has not been kind to us and we have had better sailing conditions, but everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy it,” Ken told Burnham-On-Sea.com at Sunday’s prize ceremony.

The overall competition was won by Graham Wills onboard Swiftwind, second was Ken Sowden on Old Rhodie, and third was Dave Rose on Water Lilly.

Sunday’s Pursuit Races (pictured right) were won by Rod Southwell on Walrus, while the runners up were Arthur Pizzey on Rascal and Ken Sowden on Old Rhodie.

Prizes were also presented to the winners of the annual tender race, who included Edward Clist, Steve Tanner and Nicky Langfield. The best pirate costume went to Sue Clist.

The regatta opened on August 1st with a dazzling night-time procession of illuminated boats. It also included the River Brue Festival, a colourful tender race, a pig roast, and the annual ESCAPE Day. Click the links below for our full coverage.
