Red Nose Day was marked in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge with a day of colourful fundraising on Friday (March 18th).
Hundreds of pupils at King Alfred School in Highbridge paid a donation to take part in a ‘wear what you want’ day, raising more than £1,000 for Comic Relief.
The school has held various fun-filled fundraising events during the week, including a gunging session.
“The students have had a lot of fun and also raised a good sum for Comic Relief and other charities at the same time,” said King Alfred School’s Simon Aylward.
Elsewhere, staff and children at Berrow Primary and Pre-School wore red on Friday to raise money for Comic Relief, collecting over £180.
Headteacher Heather Hector told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were really impressed by the generosity of the donations and the effort made by staff and children alike. It is really important to us as a school that we get involved in events like this as it gives us an opportunity to consider how fortunate we are.”
And the team at Homes in Sedgemoor raised £105 for Comic Relief by holding several fundraising activities on Friday. Staff came to work with cakes to sell and also held a quiz and wore funny hats. Organiser Gary Orr said: “As always, this year’s Red Nose Day was lots of fun and our staff team pulled together to raise a great donation for Comic Relief.”
