Red Nose Day was marked in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge with a day of colourful fundraising on Friday (March 15th). Hundreds of fundraisers of all ages donned red noses and fancy dress during fun-filled events to raise money for the BBC’s Comic Relief.
Two Burnham town councillors, Kate Lawson and Helen Groves, took part in a sponsored ‘baked beans shower’ in fancy dress!
The mucky event was held on Burnham’s seafront and raised more than £100 for Comic Relief.
“We wanted to do something a bit unusual to raise a few laughs and money at the same time,” Kate told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Staff at Burnham’s Ritz Cinema dressed up in fancy dress and collected donations for Comic Relief from audience members throughout Friday.
Pupils at Brent Knoll School also joined the fundraising fun. Head teacher Karen Davidson said: “The pupils and staff all wore red and donated 50p each to raise money for Comic Relief. There were some great costumes and it was a very fun day.”

Children at Berrow School wore fancy dress to raise funds. The school’s head teacher, Heather Hector, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a brilliant day, with amazing costumes, fancy hair and make up. The school council arranged a Berrow Family Fortunes game which made everyone laugh. We raised money by selling red noses and holding a mufti day and a disco.”
Mark First School also raised money on Red Nose Day. More than £130 was collected when the pupils wore red, bought Red Nose biscuits and entered a joke competition.
Pupils at Churchfield School in Highbridge paid £1 to wear pyjamas and an additional £1 to enter a talent contest. The Year 2 youngsters dressed up in their pyjamas and the pupils also took part in a Churchfield’s Got Talent competition.
Burnham’s Fairstart Nursery joined in with the fun, wearing red clothes and selling cakes to raise funds.
And the team at the Somerset Drainage Boards Consortium offices in Highbridge raised over £130 for Comic Relief with a mini digger race challenge.
The School Pupils Council at West Huntspill School organised a ‘wear it red day’ and a cake sale, raising £124.49 for Comic Relief. The pupils also wrote their best jokes on a joke wall which they are turning into a Red Nose Joke Book for the school library.
The Chedzoy family joined the fundraising fun with their own costumes and red noses to raise money for Comic Relief.
