This phase covers 11,000 homes in parts of Burnham-On-Sea, Bridgwater and several rural communities.
Called ‘Sort It Plus’, the recycling service introduces weekly collections of plastic bottles and cardboard, plus food waste alongside fortnightly collections of general refuse.
Affected households are being sent notification packs to let them know if they are impacted by the latest changes.
Councillor Stuart Kingham, Sedgemoor’s Executive Portfolio Holder for Environment, (pictured) told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is the biggest expansion yet and will help make a real difference to recycling in Sedgemoor”
“Over the course of 2010 we’re bringing ‘Sort It Plus’ to the whole of the district, which should lead to our recycling rate doubling to over 50 per cent. This will give Sedgemoor one of the highest recycling rates in the country and save money for council tax payers by cutting the burden of landfill taxes.”
