Highbridge’s recycling centre was shut to the public on Monday afternoon (March 8th) after a fire broke out.
Two fire engines from Burnham-On-Sea were called to the Isleport Industrial Estate at 4.15pm, as pictured here, after a large metal container full of refuse was accidentally set alight.
Fire spokesman Paul Slavin told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Fire crews used two hose reel jets to extinguish a fire in a 40 yard long skip at the centre.”
“Fortunately, the fire was fully contained and did not spread but it did take some time to fully extinguish and damp down.”
Fire crews were on the scene until 5.30pm and the centre was closed to the public throughout the afternoon. It is expected to be open as normal on Tuesday.
