A new reading group is set to launch today (Monday, March 3rd) at Burnham-On-Sea’s Library.
The group, called ‘Feel Better with a Book’, is supported by Public Health (part of Somerset County Council) and will be held from 2-4pm at the library in Princess Street.
“This group has been organised to encourage emotional well-being and to help prevent isolation,” said organiser Carol Richards.
“There is no cost, and the group will meet weekly.”
“Because there is evidence-based research to indicate that the emotional well-being of individuals who are experiencing mental health issues improves when participating in reading groups, this group is primarily being set up for them; but the sessions are available to anyone wishing to participate, as no one will be expected to declare a current, or previous, mental health issue.”
She added: “Individuals will not be expected to divulge any personal details regarding their situations, and confidentiality, privacy and respect for all will be keynotes. Members do not have to read aloud, unless they wish to do so, but equally if any member wants to do so they will be encouraged and supported.”
