A new Highbridge campaign group has this week been formed to fight plans for a controversial new roundabout.
Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report earlier this month how Somerset County Council wants to construct a mini roundabout, plus a new pedestrian crossing and new yellow lines, at the junction of Pepperall Road and Burnham Road.
The council says it is needed because the Frank Foley Parkway will create a huge increase in traffic passing through the area.
However, members of the new group – Residents Against Proposed Yellow Disaster (RAPYD) – would create parking chaos and also hit the value of their homes.
A total of 23 local residents have already signed up to join RAPYD and the group’s chairperson Fiona Cawley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The plans for this road junction are horrifying and will make it more dangerous and and also cause a devaluation of our homes.”
“We’ve already had a lot of interest from local people. There are lots of very strong feelings against the scheme. We are confident we can win this and will also be starting a petition.”
Burnham-On-Sea.com first highlighted safety at the junction last year when local resident Terence William called for a pedestrian crossing at the location.
