A special exhibition about Burnham-On-Sea’s historic past has opened in the town’s Tourist Information Office this week.
The 150th anniversary of the extension of the Somerset Central Railway to Burnham jetty is being marked with a talk and special display of photos, tickets, posters and railway timetables.
The display runs until the end of May and is open daily at the centre on The Esplanade. As an added attraction, on May 3rd between 9.30am and 1.00pm author Alan Hammond will be at the centre signing copies of his new book.
Also, on the same day, Mike Beale, a well-known historian of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway, will give an illustrated talk about ‘Cardiff to Paris – via Burnham!’ at the Baptist Church Hall at 7.30pm. The event will be free and open to all.
Mike said: “I am pleased to be able to make a further contribution to the memory of the much-loved Somerset & Dorset line through these talks, and look forward to meeting lots more people with the same interest during the course of the evening.”
