Rail commuters travelling from Burnham and Highbridge Train Station face an increase in the price of their season tickets from the start of January.
First Great Western has announced its new prices, which will rise with inflation at 3.1%.
The Chancellor announced in December that regulated rail prices would increase in line with July’s RPI inflation measure, rather than RPI plus one per cent as had previously been the case.
First Great Western managing director Mark Hopwood said: “I am delighted to say that all of our fares will be kept in line with inflation at 3.1 per cent. The money raised by Government through fares ensures investment in more trains, better stations and faster services.”
“However, anything which reduces the cost of price rises is good news for customers and the industry as a whole.”
The latest changes affect all tickets, including advance purchase and season tickets, for travel from January 2nd.
The fares increase comes despite concern from some commuters about the age of overcrowded trains being used.
Stephen Joseph, of the Campaign for Better Transport, said: “Some trains are well past retirement age. We need a proper long-term Government strategy to replace old trains with new ones.”
