Police identify two bodies found near Highbridge Railway Station

-

Police have identified the two men whose bodies have been found close to Highbridge railway station this week.

British Transport Police said the men, aged 30 and 34, have been identified but their names have not yet been released.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances that led to the bodies being found.

Police recovered the first body of a man who had been struck by a passing train near to the Springfield Road Foot Crossing at 5.45pm on Thursday.

A second body was found by police nearby on Friday morning as they investigated the death of the first man, although it is not clear whether the two are linked.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Officers investigating the death of a man who was struck by train at Springfield Road Foot Crossing, just south of Highbridge and Burnham Rail Station, on Thursday discovered the body of a second man behind a railway building near to the station.”

“The second body was discovered at 10.40am on Friday and the incident is currently being treated as unexplained.”

“Officers are working to establish the cause of death although the man found on Friday was not struck by a train.”

“At this stage, it is unclear whether there are any links between the man who was hit by a train on Thursday and the man who was found behind the railway building on Friday and enquiries are ongoing.”

The body of the first man was recovered by police on Thursday evening after being struck at around 5.45pm by a train on its way to Paignton.

Police have appealed for information and asked anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
