Burnham-On-Sea’s Railway Inn has been presented with a plaque in recognition of its services to the Royal Air Forces Association.
Jay Bebbington, the Manager of The Railway, received the award from Brian Mudge of the Burnham branch of the RAFA on Friday (June 8th) during the group’s annual Brew For The Few fundraising coffee morning.
Brian told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The plaque was presented in recognition of the services provided by the pub’s staff and the brewery over the past three years. This is very much appreciated by the Burnham and District Branch of the RAFA.”
Brian added that the pub’s assistance during Friday’s severe gales and heavy rain had also ensured the fundraiser had been able to go ahead as planned.
“The weather was not kind to us on Friday and fortunately The Railway very kindly let us use the coffee/tea section of the pub to hold our event indoors. Without their assistance in allowing this, we would have been forced to cancel,” he said.
“As it was, we managed to raise £140 for the Wings Appeal, which considering the wet and windy conditions, was an achievement in itself. Everyone who participated in setting this annual event worked very hard and my hearty thanks goes out to them all.”
Among those attending was Burnham’s Mayor and Mayoress, along with other town councillors who attended and helped to raise the level of interest in the RAFA Wings Appeal and the upcoming Armed Forces Day.
