Members of Burnham-On-Sea’s Royal Air Forces Association have this week celebrated the 60th anniversary of their group by handing a certificate to the town’s Mayor to thank residents for their support over the years.
Mayor Derick Cooper accepted the certificate on behalf of the town from RAFA Chairman John Bryan during a short ceremony on Monday evening (September 7th), as pictured here.
John, right, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Burnham branch of the RAFA was formed on 4th September 1946 and, now, some 63 years later we have received this special certificate from the RAFA President Air Marshall Philip Sturley acknowledging our milestone.”
“Since we have received such superb support from the people of Burnham-On-Sea during the last 63 years, who have raised £170,000 for us, we wanted to say thank you by presenting this certficate to the Mayor so it could be hung in the town council’s chambers.”
He added: “Without the support of the town, there would be no RAFA branch in Burnham.”
