Highbridge community radio station holds open day

-

Volunteers who want to get involved with Highbridge’s soon-to-launch community radio station can find out more about the project this weekend when a special open day is held.

Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported last month how local organisation Somerset Film had successfully applied to OFCOM, the UK’s radio regulator, for a temporary licence to broadcast across Highbridge for two days on June 12th and 13th.

Funded by the Big Lottery and the ‘Family Connections’ community initiative, the station will enable families in and around Highbridge to go on the air with their own material.

Co-ordinator Kirsty Bucknell, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re inviting families who would like to get involved to come along to a session at the Highbridge Community Hall in Market Street on Saturday 8th May.”

“Sessions are 10am-12.30pm or 1.30pm-3pm. During these sessions we’ll be talking about what role you’d like to play, who you’re interested in interviewing, what features you’d like to make as well as creating a few jingles.”

“We’ll also be putting a ‘playlist’ of music together and it would be great if you could bring five music tracks to the session – either on a CD or just the titles of – that you would like to play on the air.”

People will be able to make and present programmes, news items, interviews and features, from gardening tips to stories about Highbridge’s history. Most of the items can be recorded in advance so there’s no need to worry about nerves, making a mistake or being available for the broadcast dates.

She added that all equipment will be provided, that no previous experience is required, and that all the activity is free. Book your place by contacting Kirsty on 455649 or email Kirsty@somersetfilm.com.
