Burnham-On-Sea celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday with scores of street parties, cream teas, family entertainment and special events over the weekend.
Burnham-On-Sea.com was invited along to the celebrations and these photos give a flavour of the atmosphere at each event.
Pictured above, more than 25 residents at Chichester Close were treated to a street party supported by the Town Council.
Right, Burnham’s Mayor and Mayoress signed a giant birthday card which is being sent to the Queen from the people of Burnham. It was signed by 400 people over the weekend on the seafront and was hand-produced by Linda Bullimore.
A seafront celebration taking place over three days saw live music, a tug of war, beach fun, stalls and a royal-themed fancy dress competition being organised by community group BOSH Events.
It ended with a Youth Parade along the beach from Maddock’s Slade to the jetty featuring local youngsters on Sunday evening.
Burnham and Highbridge Town Band were on top form during their performance at the seafront event on Saturday.
Local group the Bostock Breeze Band entertained the audience on the seafront with a great line-up of tunes during Saturday, followed in the evening by ‘Elvis’.
These two youngsters were crowned the winners of a royal-themed fancy dress competition during the weekend.
Town crier Alastair Murray was in full voice as he cried a celebratory message of congratulations to Her Majesty.
Residents enjoyed a Street Party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday at the Gospel Centre in Old Burnham Road, Highbridge on Saturday.
The Highbridge event was given a Commonwealth theme with freshly cooked Caribbean food, English cream teas, a cake stall and hot dogs on offer.
The Highbridge event was hailed a success by co-organiser Zoe Ryder, who said: “The event was held to give something back to the community and it was a superb day. We also raised a good sum for the Peter Gilliard School in India which we are supporting through the year.”
On Sunday, these giant zorb balls on Burnham beach attracted plenty of attention, with families keen to give them a go.
A number of stalls were set up along the seafront offering items from local charities including Educate the Kids.
Somerset Time For Youth’s members took part in a parade along Burnham beach from Maddock’s Slade to the jetty.
Those taking part in the beach parade received a medal that was presented by the town’s Mayor and Mayoress.
Funds were collected during a street collection for BARB Search & Rescue at the seafront event, which raised £173.05 for its life-saving work. Event organiser Gaynor Brown said: “We had a good turnout of people for the start of the season, with crowds of people in between the showers. It was a super weekend to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday here in Burnham.”
Burnham-On-Sea bagpiper, Pipe Major Gavin Utting, attracted plenty of attention from visitors through the weekend.

Burnham’s Royal British Legion welcomed the Mayor and Mayoress to Sunday’s cream tea event.
At the Beachcomber in Brean, couples filled the dance floor for a special Royal tea dance on Saturday afternoon.
