A church in Burnham-On-Sea will be marking the anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne with a special service today (Monday, February 6th).
St Andrew’s Church will be holding a brief service at 12.30pm, accompanied by a peal of bells, which will be followed by a loyal toast.
Reverend Graham Witts told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “In these days of bad news about self serving bankers, it is a good time to reflect on the public service and life of our monarch.”
“It was on Febuary 6th 1952 that the accession took place. This marks what I hope will be a wonderful few months of celebration in the area concluding with the jubilee events organised by our Town Council.”
“Our brief service will last 10 minutes and will use prayers from the Accession Service, reminding us of the tradition, legacy and courage of Queen Elizabeth the Second. We hope as many as are able, of any faith, or none, to join us.”
