A pensioner from Burnham-On-Sea has died in hospital following a three-vehicle road crash earlier this month, police have confirmed on Monday.
The collision took place on the A39 at West Quantoxhead at about 9am on Saturday July 14th – and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
The 71-year-old man from the Burnham-on-Sea area was seriously hurt and taken by air ambulance to Frenchay Hospital, where he died last Thursday, July 26th.
The man was driving a Vauxhall Meriva on the A39 towards West Quantoxhead when it was reported to have crossed the double white line in the centre of the road.
It collided with a skip lorry travelling in the opposite direction, which tried to take evasive action, causing it to drive into the roadside verge, where it was in collision with an overhanging branch.
The branch then hit a third vehicle, a Ford Transit van, which was also travelling away from West Quantoxhead.
The Burnham man suffered serious injuries and was flown to hospital, where he died.
The police’s collision investigation unit has issued an appeal for witnesses and anyone with information should contact the force’s Collision Investigation Unit by calling 101.
